There are different phones for different functions like if you want to choose phone having high securitythan you need to head over to Blackberry. Now if you are interested in better UI with variety in Operating systems you should choose HTC or Samsung. If you need best services than go for Apple.[divider]

Operating System

Today the most important aspect of a Smartphone is its operating system. In operating systems there is also a very tough competition. The main competitors are Android, iOS, Blackberry and Windows Phone. In this field more players are also coming like Ubuntu which will launch its first Ubuntu based smartphone in 2014 or in October this year. While Firefox OS is also coming pretty soon. So its not only tough for companies or brands to survive but its also tough for customers or buyers to choose Operating System. So let’s see how much we can help ypu.

First we will discuss about the Windows Phone. It is the new operating system from the Microsoft which is quite promising but as it is new so there are many bugs and issues. Microsoft is working hard on it to make it bug free. Now It also obvious that if you want apps and performance from the operating system you should not go for Windows Phoneas of now.

Now let’s see what’s better in Apple’s iOS . It is great product aka OS from Apple Inc.and its believed that iOS is much more secure than Android and Windows Operating system. Apple iOS App Store have apps more than 700,000. The only negative point for this operating system is that if you want to use it than you need to buy the Apple product aka iPhone, iPad or iPod which are priced quite highly.

What Is Samsung Smart Pause And Smart Scroll?

smart scroll and smart pauseAs we all know that Samsung has launched its new flagship device – Samsung Galaxy S4 last week at the Times Square  in the New York. Before announcement several rumors were passed on stating everything about devices from its Specs to design. But no one got or mentioned Samsung new smart technologies that they have embedded in the Galaxy S4.

Additionally, Samsung Galaxy S4 is the fastest smartphone as according to benchmark scores. There are several features in the Galaxy S4 which makes it much smart than other smartphones and today we gonna talk about it. One of the best smart feature I liked on Galaxy S4 is Smart Pause and Eye Scroll which help users to browse or watch content without touching. So let’s start with:

Samsung Smart Pause

samsung smart pause

Samsung has launched this feature with Galaxy S4 to improve device interaction with humans. Smart Pause feature pauses the playback of videos if the it detects that the user has been looking away from the display. In other words Smart Pause technology detects your eye movements to intelligently stop video when your gaze turns away from the screen.

How Smart Pause Works?

This technology uses eye tracking sensors to detect when you’re looking away from a video, pausing it accordingly.

Is it Useful?

I think it will not be useful for many of the guys out there. Giving example – If you watch something with a friend than it will automatically turn off screen as your device position be centered and and eye tracking will not be able to track your or friends eye.[divider]

Samsung Smart Scroll

samsung smart scroll

Samsung Smart Scroll technology is also present in the Galaxy S4 which recently announced last week. Eye Scroll lets you page up or down by tilting the Galaxy S4 in the corresponding direction.

How Smart Scroll Works?

AS mentioned above it will allow users to scroll down the phone even without touching the phone. It will come into work when user will be watching phone data or reading internet pages. While reading when user will come to bottom of the display and when the phone is moved through slight angle, it will automatically scroll down. Similar working is obeyed while scrolling up.

Is it useful or not?

It seems to be much useful than Smart Pause.

Along with these features, Samsung has also bolted Galaxy S4 with many other features also but these are highly sensitive ones. Both above mentioned features has been added to take the video watching and reading experience to a new level.

Additionally, Samsung Galaxy S4 is powered by Exynos 5 Octa processor with 2 GB of RAM. It is running on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and is bolted with a 13 megapixels resolution camera on the rear side and is having 2 megapixels resolution camera on the front side.

It will hit the stores for sale next month in over 155 countries.

Why Apple iOS Devices Doesn’t Support Flash?

[dropcap]I[/dropcap]ts a big question that why Apple iOS Devices doesn’t support Flash? But there are many reasons for that and today w’ll discuss it. Since Apple iPhone or iOS launched, Apple always remained on opposite side for usage of Flash on their devices. The use of Flash is also prohibited in the Apple’s Terms and Conditions and says, “An Application may not itself install or launch other executable code by any means, including without limitation through the use of a plug-in architecture, calling other frameworks, other APIs or otherwise, No interpreted code may be downloaded and used in an Application except for code that is interpreted and run by Apple’s Published APIs and built-in interpreter(s).”

Figures, which shows that Adobe Flash was one of the most useful element on the web. Stats below are gathered in 2011:

  • 98% of enterprises rely on Flash Player.
  • 85% of the most used sites use Flash.
  • 75% of web video is viewed using Flash Player.
  • 70% of web games are made in Flash.

So guys let’s start to know

Why Apple iOS Devices Doesn’t Support Flash?

  • Apple Uses Open Source Products for their products – Example Apple has adopted HTML5, CSS and JavaScript – all open standards rather than using Flash which is property of Adobe.
  • Misuse of Flash on iOS Platform – Apple developers will develop apps to get their software onto the iPhone, iPad or on iPod. In long term impact, developers would distribute music and videos impacting company’s iTunes Store.
  • It will Snatch iOS Devices reliability and performance – using flash on Smartphone lags its performance and even deteriorate its reliability. So in order to make iPhone, iPad and iPod better from all aspects, Apple decided not to use Adobe Flash on iOS devices.
  • Security Issues – this is the best reason for Apple to remain on side from using Apple. Even now, Flash have the worst security records.
  • Battery Drain – As we all know that most of the videos running on flash require decoding to get it played on mobile devices. So in order to decode any video to required format it uses or drains lot of battery power.

What Steve Jobs Thinks About Flash?

On April 30, 2011 Apple CEO Steve Jobs also quoted why they doesn’t use flash on iOS devices. He stated that Adobe was developed during PC era and it has no place in the world of Smartphones. Read his official statement below:

Flash was created during the PC era – for PCs and mice. Flash is a successful business for Adobe, and we can understand why they want to push it beyond PCs. But the mobile era is about low power devices, touch interfaces and open web standards – all areas where Flash falls short.

The avalanche of media outlets offering their content for Apple’s mobile devices demonstrates that Flash is no longer necessary to watch video or consume any kind of web content. And the 200,000 apps on Apple’s App Store proves that Flash isn’t necessary for tens of thousands of developers to create graphically rich applications, including games.

New open standards created in the mobile era, such as HTML5, will win on mobile devices (and PCs too). Perhaps Adobe should focus more on creating great HTML5 tools for the future, and less on criticizing Apple for leaving the past behind.

Earlier many a times Adobe and Apple interchanged heated arguments regarding their proprietary products. But after all talkings, finally, Adobe pulled down Adobe Flash For Mobiles in 2011. So Adobe was forced, pulled to start developing tools using HTML5, the technology Jobs championed.

Review Sony Xperia Z

sony Xperia Z

Sony came into the market with its new smartphone Xperia Z in January at CES 2013. In India phone was launched on 12th March 2013. With the newly launched device, finally, Sony has also entered into the battle field of quadcore processor smartphones. On the backside their is the 13MP Primary camera with LED flash. Overall when we talk about the design of the phone we feel its a satisfactory work done by Sony.

Hardware

The Sony Xperia Z has a 1.5 GHz Quad Core processor, which is far more than the average for all Smartphones but it is little less than the HTC One. This smartphone offers 16GB of internal storage, which is quite more than the average for all Smartphones. Additionally this particular smartphone is also equipped with 2GB of RAM, It also packed with the camera of 13 MP with LED flash. Xperia Z also have the powerful battery of 2,330 mAh.

After reviewing the hardware of Xperia Z we can say it has quite good hardware in this price range. Along with there is one special, extraordinary and much talked feature which we didn’t talked above and that is Water Resistivity. Its the first smartphone which is waterproof.

Software

Sony Xperia Z  runs on Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean alongside Sony’s Xperia User interface. Although the User interface of Sony is very much like the Android  design guidelines. There are upto seven home screen in a very traditional Android launcher experience. Where  applications are concerned the excitement comes in the form of Sony’s own app suite which contains Walkman app for music, gallery app, Facebook, Picasa and PlayMemories integration are pretty good ones.

Display

sony-xperia-z display

The Sony Xperia Z has a 5 inch display screen with 1080 x 1920 pixels having  440.6ppi. Yes, Size of the screen is quite large and is more than the average for all Smartphones. Xperia Z has some other features like Geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, image stabilization, HDR, sweep panorama.

Verdict

Xperia Z is the biggest device of 2013 from the Sony. Its Competitors are the HTC One , Samsung Galaxy S4 and Apple iPhone 5. Xperia Z will gives the tough competition to these smartphones. We here at The Gadget Square think that with above listed features the Sony is quite good choice for around Rs. 37,000 ($US 650).

Again i’m saying its the good choice but not the best.

Basic Misconceptions About Chromebook

chromebook pixel

[dropcap]C[/dropcap]hromebook is the Laptop PC from Google with the Google Chrome OS in it. Google has made this Operating system in completely different way from the traditional ones like Microsoft Windows and Apple’s Mac OS X. Basically Chromebook device runs on Chrome OS and it is designed to be used while connected to the internet and it supports the applications which reside on the internet. It works on the methodology of cloud computing. This makes your daily working fast in comparison to other laptops and PCs. The Chromebook has many features which can makes your day to day work very easy without spending much money. But people have many misconceptions regarding the Chromebook. Lets discuss them briefly

[divider]

  • No Optical Drive: This is the Deal breaker as it runs on the cloud. So Google using this method thoroughly that’s their is no way to install the software’s from the the CD and DVDs people thinks that this is the main disadvantage of the chromebook. But when we installsCloud Computing the software’s to our systems sometimes these software’s are infected with the viruses which may infect you your important data. One more thing is that while installing the software’s on our systems we need space on our harddisk and we have to spend the more money to the software venders, But in case of chromebook the software’s are available online with less license fee and you don’t need to worry about the space as it is based on the cloud computing. We have also written article What is Cloud Computing? read this for more details. [divider]
  • Time Consuming: As it has no optical drive to store anything so people thinks that it might take very long time to boot. But this is not true Chromebook is ready With a 10 second boot and running in quick order, ready to work or play. While updating the traditional operating system we need hours but in Chromebook all the updates are done to the over the air and you rarely even aware of the updates.[divider]
  • Offline usability: One of the first things you will hear about the Chrome OS or Chromebook in general that it is nothing without the gmail offlineinternet connection. But it is not true, the Chrome OS has many offline apps in it through which you do your work while you are offline from the internet. The offline apps on Chrome OS are Gmail, Google Drive, etc.

Conclusion

We here at The Gadget Square thinks that this is the very good product with different methodology through which you can save your money as well as time. We think it is a very good product to have in our gadgets. Now Google takes this project in high priority and had joins hands with the Samsung , Hp, Acer, etc. to make the notebook with Chrome OS. Latest version of Chromebook is Google Chromebook Pixel.

Google Registers Patent For Back Panel Touch Controls

google back touch panel

Google has been  finding new ways to simplify mobile usage from past some years, since Android activeness in the market. This time Google has applied for patent which allows to give command via back touch panel controls on Smartphones. In exact words, the touch panel technology that provides touch controls on the back panel of the device along with on the front display. Some kind of similar patent was also registered by Apple in 2006 to use it in their tablets. Currently you can also find it on the back of a PlayStation Vita.

We explaining further by giving example – Like if you want to scroll pages of an ebook, want to flip your photos or want to go on next page without touching your screen – Google’s newly filed “backside device touch control” patent’s functioning will help you attaining above mentioning functioning.

Regarding this patent Patent Bolt also quotes that the back-panel controls would obviously perform simple tasks since it would be difficult to type words if you can see a keypad. Further they added that it could allows us to “turn a page of an ebook, article on the web or flip to ‘next’ or ‘previous’ views of photos,” among other things. The technology

Google says that this will allows mobile devices to give visual, audible, and/or tactile feedback, indicating that a tap on the device’s rear has been recognized.  Google has also said that patent could not only support mobile devices this could apply to other future devices such as a tablet, ebook, Chromebook or other devices also.

Now question arises will this patent will get approved? We think its difficult as stated above Apple already owns similar type of patents but who knows it may appears unique to UPSTO officials.

Additionally, Google has been acquiring lot of patents these days to secure its Android platform legally. Earlier Google has acquired Motorola Mobility to acquire about 17,000 patents. They have also filed various other patents like mlti led’s for phones and many more.

So guys did you liked the back panel touch controls patent features ad want to use this type of functioning in real life? What you think about Google’s new patent?

What is Cloud Computing?

cloud_computing

Cloud Computing is a general term used to describe a new class of network based computing that takes place over the Internet, basically the Cloud computing is the online storage for the users. When we think of computer resources in the cloud, we usually think of public clouds, such as the ones offered by Google Drive, Dropbox  , SkyDrive, Box, etc. But the cloud computing is not just these public clouds it has also private cloud computing and  the Hybrid cloud computing .

Types of cloud computing

Public Clouds:

This type of cloud computing is the traditional model that everyone thinks of when they envision cloud computing. In this model, vendors dynamically allocate resources  on a per-user basis through web applications. Drop Box ,SkyDrive and Google drive are most popular venders.

Private Clouds:

With infrastructure or applications shared by millions of clients worldwide, through the Internet. Cloud computing has proven to be a good alternative for companies, because it reduces costs and generates flexibility. But security and availability issues still need to be resolved. That is why more and more companies are choosing Private Clouds. it provides more secure platform to the employees and costumers of an organization. For example Banks, In banks all the employees  and costumers can access the bank data which is assigned to them particularly.

Hybrid Cloud:

Hybrid cloud is the combination of the of the Public cloud and private cloud. In this type of cloud services the  internal resources,  stays under the control of the customer, and external resources delivered by a cloud service provider. A hybrid cloud lets an organization keep its sensitive data secured on the organization’s own network.  And like the public cloud, a hybrid model lets an organization take advantage of a cloud’s almost unlimited scalability. It’s a way to solve some of the trust issues of the public cloud while getting the public cloud’s benefits.

Basic Structure of the Cloud computing

services of the cloud computing

  • SAAS( Software as a service) – It provides the end software and applications to the users to store their data on the cloud.
  • PAAS (Platform as a service) – In this part the service provider provides the platform to you on which you can  you can download the files of the required software or service by paying the fees to the service provider.
  • IAAS (infrastructure as a service) – This part is basically belong to the admin part or we can say the service provider. In this part  the service provider provides the user with the basic infrastructure. Like platform and the end applications which become the interface between users and the cloud.

Conclusion

cloud_computing_pros_cons_bigThe cloud computing is very good method of computing it saves lots of money which we spends to buy the extra hardisks and softwares. It also make the backup of your data. The main advantage of the cloud computing is that it saves lot of time which we are spending to install the new softwares on our system. These makes this system great to use. But, as this system has many advantages at the same time there are some disadvantages also that are the security of the data in the public clouds and we don’t know any thing about the system when the system fails to reinstatement we have to report the service provider than the service provider will take the required action. We think that the advantages of this computing methods are more than its problems and even the researchers and developers are working  the problems of this computing method.

We have written an Article on How to Backup your Laptop  read it to know more about the cloud based storage.

Difference Between CMOS And CCD Image Sensors

ccd vs cmos

CMOS And CCD Sensors? Well, these are image sensors which are used in Digital Cameras to convert light signal into electrical signal. Due to introduction of these new sensors imaging have become simpler and inexpensive. Today you can buy Digital Cameras from the starting range of $60 only.

Well, Today we’re talking on difference between CMOS and CCD image sensors. There are many differences between them, from operational functions to image Producing .We’ll talk about them today.

Before starting you need to know that the CCD  stands for Charge Couple Devices and CMOS for Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor. These are the only sensors currently used in the Digital cameras.

Let’s start!

CCD Sensors

These sensors are first discovered and used on Digital cameras and it stands for Charge Couple Devices. These sensors produce high quality images.

ccd sensor

Working

CCD sensor working is simple it consists a range of capacitors that accumulates a charge that is proportional to the quantity of light that is hitting it. After that Quantity of charge in each capacitor is then turned into a numerical or mathematical value by the cameras inner system to produce a picture.

Advantages/ Features of CCD Sensors

  • Conversion takes place in the chip without distortion
  • CCDs have very high uniformity – Technique for HD quality images (not videos)
  • These sensors are more sensitive – Produce Better Images in Low Light
  • CCD sensors produce cleaner and less grainy Images – low-noise images
  • CCD sensors is produced for longer period of time

Disadvantages of CMOS Sensors

  • CCD sensors Consume much more power
  • CCDs are interlaced
  • Inferior HD Video – Less pixel rates
  • CCDs are expensive as they require special manufacturing.[divider]

CMOS Sensors

CMOS Sensors Stand for Complimentary Metal Oxide Semiconductor and these sensors don’t require any special manufacturing cost. Most of the digital cameras these days come on CMOS Sensor as it reduces manufacturing cost.

Working

In CMOS Sensors, first phase of image building is different while second one resembles to CCDs. CMOS picture sensor catches mild intensity via a range of photo detectors which are then coupled with an amplifier in order to attain a high enough to charge to quantify. In Addition, there are several transistors at each pixel that amplify and move the charge using more traditional wires. Then charge is turned into a numerical or mathematical value which correspond to the image.

Advantages/ Features Of CMOS Sensor

  • CMOS consumes less power
  • CMOS sensors are cheaper
  • These Sensors produce better HD videos
  • CMOS cameras are used on Phones, Tablets, etc
  • CMOS imager clearly has better performance

Disadvantages Of CMOS Sensor

  • CMOS sensors are also more susceptible – sometimes images are grainy
  • CMOS sensors need more light for better image
Despite some disadvantages CMOS sensor is widely used in Mobile Phones, Tablets, PDAs and on most of the digital cameras. Also we never need to forget that CCDs are better for performance they are also used on Digital and DSLR Cameras.
While both the cameras most of the time produce similar kind of images. While CCD cameras produce better images but  CMOS sensors are catching up fast with its low power consumption. We hope that Soon CMOS will match CCD like images quality.
