In today’s advanced world, sometimes it’s been quite surprising to know that what we don’t know. Today a similar question is here and we are sure most of us don’t know its answer. Well, the question is what is the GPRS full form? We know many of us don’t know what does it stands for. In short, it stands for General Packet Radio Services.

 gprs full form

It is a packet-based wireless communication service which allows the users to get a speed of 56 kbps to 114 kbps. It is a tech which was used in the 3G and 2.5G networks to get network access. GPRS is intended to perform various functions in the communication for GSM networks.

GPRS aka General Packet Radio Service is usually used to access internet protocols. It’s the ability to send small data packets to transfer huge volumes of large data. The large data is then broken into individual packets and sent from the remote server to the receiver. Later, the small packets are again aligned in the right order on the receiver’s machine to make meaningful communication.

What’s the GPRS full form?

As said above, GPRS denotes general Packet Radio Services and is a quite useful service to get internet access during the times of 2G and 2.5G era. At that time GPRS was 3x faster and reliable than the fixed line data transfer services. It’s adaptability on the mobile devices have led to the advancements in the communications era. It opened doors for high-speed data transfer across portable mobile devices.

Advantages of GPRS:

There are plenty of advantages that GPRS offers.

  • Instantaneous Connection:  GPRS allows users or devices to connect instantaneously without the need for any external wire or port. It provides steady and instant connections where ever you want. It is easy to use and convenient form of being in connection.
  • High-Speed: It provides high-speed internet connectivity in 2G and 2.5G technologies. It can offer a maximum speed of 171.2 kbps, making it faster 3x than the primitive methods. Even though, it allowed GSM networks to be 10 times faster than the primitive technologies.
  • Affordable solution: It is a cost-effective solution making it more acceptable across the networks. Many users can use it as for carriers it is an affordable solution. Overall, it helped to provide internet services to most of the users across the world in an affordable way.
  • Application compatibility: As the data sent over the GPRS is divided into small packets. It helps to minimize data loss and help applications not to break more often. The applications include internet browsing, e-commerce, IM messages and much more. It even helps to manage server connections via FTP, HTTP, SFTP, and other network protocols. It eliminates the use of middleware on mobile devices to make them compatible with web applications.
  • Bluetooth Accessibility: Along with GPRS, Bluetooth standard can act as a mode to make a wireless connection between different devices.

GPRS has allowed the advent of new technologies such as EDGE  – Enhanced Data GSM Environment and UMTS – Universal Mobile Telephone Services.

SIM cards are transferable from one phone to another. SIM Cards come in many different sizes over the years. First, when the universal integrated circuit (UICC) smart cards were introduced, they were in the size of Credit Card or Debit cards. However, the sizes are reduced over the years, which we will discuss in detail below.

Full-Size SIM

Full size SIM

The first SIM which came into existence in 1991, it has the size of credit card. To be more precise the size is (85.60 mm × 53.98 mm × 0.76 mm). The Full-size SIM cards are supplied embedded in the full-size card.

Mini-Size SIM

Mini SIM

It came into existence in 1996 and reduced in size. Although it came with the full-size SIM card, now the main SIM is attached by linking pieces to the full-size card. This arrangement is made to make it compatible with devices which require the full-size card and mini-size SIM cards.

Micro SIM

Micro SIM

The Micro SIM came into existence in 2003. Although Micro SIM has the same contact arrangements, but it is reduced in length and width. This type has to developed because the major mobile manufacturing companies start making smaller SIM readers for which have to cut the plastic surrounding the contact arrangement. So Micro SIM is developed to make it easy for users.

Nano SIM

Nano SIM

In 2012 some service providers started supply Nano SIMs. The Nano SIM is further reduced in size and measures 12.3 × 8.8 × 0.67 mm. The iPhone 5 which was released in 2012 is the first device to get support for Nano Sim.

Embedded SIM (eSIM)

esim

Although eSIM is not widely used right now. But we think in the future it will be more popular its size is 6 x 5 x 1 mm.

Features of a SIM Card

  • International mobile subscriber identity (IMSI)
SIM cards are identified on their operator networks by a unique International Mobile Subscriber Identity (IMSI). Moreover, network operators connect phone calls and communicate with their market SIM cards using their IMSIs.
  • Location area identity
Location area identity (LAI) is an ID given to a particular network area. As the operator has divided its network into Location Areas, each having a unique LAI number. When the Phone changes its position, new LAI is stored to the SIM and send it back to the service provider.
  • Authentication key
It is used to identify and authenticate subscribers
  • Contacts and SMS
SIM can store the SMS and contacts. Contacts are stored in the form of Name and number. How many contacts and messages can be stored on SIM depends on the capacity of that SIM. Earlier we can only store 5 SMS and 20 Contacts and now the SIM can store over 250 Contacts.

Security Features of SIM

For the security purposes, SIM has Two type of passwords which protects your SIM card from unauthorized use. Passwords are PIN and PUC.

  • Personal identification number (PIN)
PIN is used to protect the unauthorized access to your SIM or Device. The will ask you for the PIN when you switch it ON. If you enter the wrong PIN for more than three times, the SIM card will be blocked. In some cases, both SIM and Phone got locked.
  • Personal unblocking code (PUC)
It is also known as personal unlocking key (PUK). PUC or PUK is used to reset personal identification number (PIN) in 3GPP mobile phones. The network provider provides PUC. However, be careful while entering the PUC number, If you enter the wrong PUC eight times in a row, then your SIM card will be blocked and you have to take a new SIM.

That’s it. In this article, we try to cover the some use full features of SIM which will helps you understand its working like Full form of SIM, Types of SIM, Security Features, etc.

The 23+ local languages/dialects used in the various region across India is self exemplary of its diverse culture and practices. However, considering the online attendance of Indians, it points out to be much less than its total population. Which means either majority of the Indian population doesn’t have access to Internet or they face problem with the default English language used in the internet.

It seems, the internet giant Google has got one step solution for the latter problem. Google has now updated its Voice Search function to include 8 more Indic languages. Potentially, eradicating the language barrier existed over the web for years, specially for the common Indians.

Which all Indian Languages?

The new Indian languages that gets added to the Google Voice Search portfolio includes: Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu. So far, only Hindi was the one and only Indian languages that supported Google Voice. Eventually, making a total of 9 Indian languages support by this.

In India, About 234 million as of late last year prefer using their native language online than those who can get by with English, which is about 175 million users.

In addition, GBoard – Google’s official Keyboard will also get updated to support more Indian languages. Which means, today onwards, millions of Indians could be comfy and feel more homely like, while surfing Google or typing their native language in the GBoard.

Hats-off to Google

Even adding a single language requires much effort and patience. Mammoth size of data related to the language and regional dialects could possess deep trouble. But, Google worked collaboratively with native people to acquire necessary big data for training its Machine Learning technology. Ultimately, Google succeeded in cracking eight more Indian languages to support its Voice Search. And still many languages on the way.

By this move, Google believes in bringing next billions to the world of internet.

Note: A total of new 30 languages where added by Google, in which eight of them was Indian as mentioned in the article.

Whether you call it a leak or as an after effect of official procedures. All most all vital details of upcoming Galaxy Note 8 is revealed by GFXBench – A reputed benchmarking site. Today, the device carrying model number SM-N950(Galaxy Note 8) popped its head in the GFXBench, eventually leaving all the traces of its appearance. Thankfully, major revelations are unearthed with this visit by the successor of last years ill-fated Galaxy Note 7.

Galaxy Note 8 Benchmark Results

GFXBench reveals the Galaxy Note 8 to possess a mammoth 6.4 inch sized AMOLED Display with QHD+ resolution of 2960×14460. As some of the sources have already pointed out, the Galaxy Note 8 was spotted running Android 7.1.1 Nougat, contrary to the Nougat 7.0 that Samsung released for all other eligible Samsung devices so far. About the processor it boards, the GFXBench detailed it as octa-core Samsung Exynos 8 SoC clocked at 2.4GHz, which probably is the latest Exynos 8895 chipset seen in the previous flagships Galaxy S8/S8+.

In addition, Galaxy Note 8 consist of 6GB of RAM and an in-built storage of 64GB. In which 5.2GB and 53GB respectively are user available as per the benchmarking.

Galaxy Note 8 is expected to be the Samsung’s first smartphone to boast a Dual-Camera setup. Ironically, the GFXBench doesn’t reveal much about the dual-camera. Instead, it bench marked the Note 8 primary camera as a single 12MP shooter, probably with f/1.7 aperture. And an 8MP front shooter.

Galaxy Note 8 Launch?

Samsung is probably heading to unpack the Galaxy Note 8 on August 23, in a special event to be conducted at New York City. The Note 8 launch is considered as a major event for Samsung or for its Note series. By unveiling the Galaxy Note 8, Samsung focus on regaining the trust and loyalty of the customers. Which it had quite a bit lost after the Note 7 debacle.

Watch below the teaser of Galaxy Note 8 posted by Samsung over YouTube.

We very much know, Dolby as an excellent audio compression or processing firm. For more than a half century, ruled the sound space by developing high quality surround audio systems. The Dolby Digital 5.1 and the Dolby Atmos standard by the Dolby laboratories Inc., that are now often seen in modern home theaters, concert halls etc redefined the audio quality. However, after proving its prowess in the audio encoding technology for years. In 2016, Dolby announced its entry in the visual/video technology by unveiling the Dolby Vision Technology.

Dolby Vision..? Hearing for the first time, and want to know more about the Dolby Vision. Its function and the application of Dolby Vision as a technology that takes our viewing experience to a next level. So, let us have a brief familiarization with the Dolby Vision.

Dolby Vision: A customised HDR10 from the house of Dolby.

The most significant advantage of Dolby Vision versus HDR10 is the addition of dynamic metadata to the core HDR image data.

History

Before the dawn of 2016, HDR format was adopted by most of the TV manufacturers to provide the users with vibrant colour, brightness and contrast. In effect, enhancing the overall visual experience. Also, the latest HDR10 format utilising 10-bit colour depth has become the standard in most of the modern TV display. There enters, Dolby with its Dolby Vision. In a sense, it is a tweaked version of HDR format which provide much capability than normal HDR. Upto 12-bit mastered colour depth being one of the feature of Dolby Vision.

Dolby Vision Integrates dynamic metadata and core HDR image data, which in effect provide rich data contents accurately and nearly distortionless in a Dolby Vision enabled Display.

Requirements for Dolby Vision

The CES 2017 witnessed many TV manufacturers, unboxing there Dolby Vision capable display. Till then, the Dolby Vision was considered as a hardware specific property. And requires optimised hardware for Dolby Vision processing. However, currently Dolby Vision support is rolled out as a separate software/firmware update for displays possessing enough fire-power to handle it.

It is to be noted that, HDR10 content is supported by all Dolby Vision capable TV’s, but at the same time an HDR TV may not support the Dolby Vision.

Features of Dolby Vision

Dolby Vision is certified to be a future-proof technology providing uncompetitive brightness and high colour gamut.

  • 12 bit colour depth compared to 10 bit in the HDR10
  • Capable of emitting 10,000nits peak brightness, whereas only 1,500-2,500nits of the traditional HDR TV.
  • A Dolby Vision display could process HDR10 as well.

Devices Supporting Dolby Vision

The world witnessed the first Dolby Vision boarded Television when LG launched its OLED TV such as C6, E6 and all in 2016. It created a new sensation in the television world. Other manufactures realised the possibilities of Dolby Vision, and initiated development of Dolby Vision capable devices. As a result, CES 2017 marked the venue for the launch of numerous Dolby Vision based Televisions. Tech Giants such as Sony, Panasonic among certain OEM’s which exhibited their Dolby Vision products.

Sony UBP-series 4K Blu-ray Player.

In the era of smartphones, not mentioning any technology relative to smartphones are incomplete. So, is the Dolby Vision.

Wondering whether the technology has hit the phones or not. Then the answer is a big yes. Once more, LG being in the pole position to release a Dolby Vision capable mobile device.

First Dolby Vision Capable Smartphone – LG G6

Currently, Samsung TabS3 and Sony XZ premium are HDR capable smartphones released. Soon, we will be able to see more and more manufacturers bringing Dolby Vision to their smartphones or tabs.

Conclusion

Dolby with its Dolby Vision has unarguably introduced a world class future-proof visual technology. However, humans greed for knowledge and his curiosity for trying new things, will unearth more upgraded form of Dolby Vision in near future. Making the future-proof nature of the Dolby Vision insignificant.

Making a visit on various renowned benchmarking website by a device before its announcement is a long followed tradition. Similarly, the much anticipated Galaxy Note 8 has already popped its head on GFXBench just few days ago. Now, the successor of last years ill-fated Galaxy Note 7 was seen in AnTuTu – an another benchmarking website.

Certain specs and features of the upcoming phablet – Note 8, could be deduced from the benchmark result. As expected the benchmark result obtained from the AnTuTu differed in some aspects to that of from the GFXBench. This anamoly in the result, clearly indicate us that the benchmarking can be spoofed. And to take any benchmarking results with a pinch of salt.

However, AnTuTu reveals the following things about the Galaxy Note 8:

According to the listings Galaxy Note 8 with model number of SM-N950. It features Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 Mobile Platform. The same SoC seen in Samsung’s last flagship Galaxy S8 in U.S market. Surprisingly, AnTuTu details the resolution of the Note 8 to be only 1080 x 2220 FHD display. Contrary, to the much expected QHD+ display that was suggested by most of the leaks and unofficial sources so far.

Coming to the camera section it features a single 12MP primary camera and an 8MP secondary. Again,no mention of dual-camera setup as on the GFXBench.

Galaxy Note 8 will be unveiled at a special event to be conducted in New York city on August 23. Samsung has already made preparation for the event by inviting press officials and all. Anyway, the Galaxy Note 8 launch will mark a major milestone in the Samsung history. Especially for its Note series as far as the last year’s Note 7 debacle is considered.

YouTube – the world’s most popular video streaming service owned by Google. Nowadays, is undergoing major overhaul in features and User Interface, especially in its Android app. Which is a result of Google’s efforts in keeping YouTube stand out from other services such as Amazon Prime video and so on. With the Real-Time Live View counter being the latest feature to debut in the YouTube.

The Real-Time View counter – as the name suggests, it gives the exact number of viewers simultaneously watching the same video that you are currently viewing. Seems interesting, isn’t it?

Total Views Kicked out for Live-View Counter.

In the app the text is placed in between like/dislike thumbs and the video title. Which used to be the space for ‘views’ the video grabbed. So, with the advent of Real-time view counter, it is the total number of views going to lose its place.

The server-side loading of the counter being experimental in nature. Unfortunately, it is not available for everyone and only seen in certain YouTube Android app users. Also, nothing is clear about the iOS counterpart of the YouTube. Basically, it means that Google may be final testing the feature before its mass roll-out. As most of us, I am also unlucky to be picked as a tester by Google. Then what about you, were lucky enough to early-access it? Do let us know in the comment section below.
