What is ISO in Cameras and how it is being used?

Camera buying guideISO stands for International Standards Organisation and it defines the norms of the sensitivity of emulsion based film. higher the no. of ISO more sensitive is the film. It is very useful in the night shots because higher the ISO is more light will be sensed by the camera. When we think about the ISO is like the volume button on your radio if the signal is weak you push it up to compensate.

There are generally predefined ISO choices like 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600 and maybe 3200. You can also set any no. of ISO between the range to which your camera is compatible. In theory you could choose any setting you wanted but imagine how tricky that would be. There are three settings which combine to give you the exposure, these are Aperture, Shutter Speed and ISO. Each one can be changed individually to allow you to set then to what you think will give you the perfect exposure.

what is ISO

Important factors while changing ISO

  1. Light: If there is penalty of light in the frame than you should set ISO at low point and if frame didn’t have much light than you should set ISO at some high point to take good Photographs.
  2. Grains in the Picture :  When you put ISO at some high point photograph will get little bit of grains with more light into Photo.
  3. Tripod: Tripod is used when the object is still and we are trying to take photo with low shutter speed.
  4. Moving Subject: In photograph when the subject is moving we should keep the ISO at high point during the Night it will capture the movement clearly.

ISO is an important aspect of digital photography to have an understanding of if you want to gain more control of your digital camera and experiment with different settings and how they impact your images today – particularly learn more about Aperture and Shutter Speed which with ISO are a part of the Exposure Triangle.

How to Buy a Good Camera (Buying Guide for Cameras)

Camera buying guide

Before We start on How to Buy good camera i must say one truth i.e. you can take great photos with bad cameras and bad photos with great cameras even if we buy a great camera. Its all upon on you how to use the camera perfectly. Now, To buy a good camera you should know some major things about cameras like aperture, sensors, etc.  We have written almost all  the things which are necessary for you to know.

1. Forget Megapixels:

Almost all the salesmans try to speak about megapixels of the that “this camera is having more megapixels, it will provides you better photos”. But in reality megapixels are not very important, Size of the sensors is the most important thing to check. More megapixels cost more memory to store a photo i your storage device.

2. Aperture Range:

Some time people confuse in the Aperture Range and Aperture itself. When you goes to a shop to buy a camera under the Range of $250(15000INR) salesman will show you a camera with aperture of f/2.8(approx) and this can be enough for you to put the cash on the checkout counter. But that camera with f/2.8 aperture will quickly change to a black-hole like f/4.8 or worse.  This thing is happened when the range is not defined. To buy a good camera you should check its aperture range and smaller the aperture number better the camera is. Aperture Range is defined something like f/1.8-f/2.8.

3. Entry level camera is not necessary for Beginners:

camera-buying-guide

Often people say while purchasing the camera ” They’re just starting off. Its a worst excuse ever to justify the bad purchase. We also thinks that entry level DSLR is a good option but you’ll get over it sooner than you might think. Wait a few months and go semi pro but at that time you won’t regret it.

 4. Do not go for all in one lens:

Lens

Many times when we buy a DSLR we don’t want to deal with the hassle of changing the lens often. Then to avoid this thing we usually buy the so called All in One lens. But in reality their is not any all in one lens. Please stay away from these kind of lens.

5. AA Batteries:

Battery

Lithium-ion batteries are great because they’re tiny but suppose if you’re out of charge at wrong time. A tiny Li-ion battery might ensure that your camera is slim, but nothing beats the comfort of being able to purchase a fully charged AA battery from the shop.

Bluetooth 4.0 History

Actual works on the energy efficient Bluetooth was started in 2000 by Nokia and later in 2004 they published results of their research and named it as Bluetooth Low End Extension.

After some more developments with its partners the technology was released to public in October 2006 but was actually embedded in a mobile device, iPhone 4s in October 2011.

Lenovo IdeaTab A1000 Review

Lenovo has a big name in laptop space but is new in the android tablet space, Lenovo added IdeaPad A1000 to its portfolio, featuring a 7-inch 600 x 1024 pixels display with pixel density of about 170ppi and Jelly Bean v4.1 out of the box which is upgradable to V4.2. A1000 is a budget tablet and is available at under Rs. 9,000 (~$125, ~100 EUR). At such a price range we were not expecting a good build quality but it shocked us with its great build quality.

Lenovo IdeaTab A1000

In the box

  1. Tablet itself
  2. microUSB cable
  3. Wall Charger
  4. Quick User Guide
  5. Important Safety and handling Information

Surprisingly, you don’t get any headphones inside the box.

Lenovo IdeaTab A1000 Box Content

Now let’s Review it in detail

Hardware Specifications

Lenovo IdeaTab A1000 is powered by ARM Cortex-A9 Dual Core 1.2 GHz CPU it gets 1 GB of RAM. It is available in 4GB, 8GB and 16GB internal storage option. It can be expanded up 32GB via a microSD card slot. Audio output is great as it is certified as Dolby Digital Plus.

Lenovo has opted not to give  3G support but you do get 2G support in it which is a bit downer. It also includes a 3,500mAh battery that the company claims, delivers around 8 hours of web browsing over Wi-Fi.

Design

Front of the device is plain with no hardware buttons, the distinctive feature is the dual speaker present on both top and bottom end. Front facing VGA camera and sensors are placed on top left corner. Chrome Lenovo logo is placed beneath the screen. The top and bottom get thinner at the edges much like the Sony Xperia l, Xperia J.

Lenovo IdeaTab A1000 FrontLenovo IdeaTab A1000 Edge

microUSB, 3.5 mm audio jack and Power/Lock key are placed on top, volume rocker is placed on the right hand side. microSD slot is present on the right side, SIM slot on the left side and both are covered under flap which are easy to open and close. The bottom gets the microphone. Back of the tablet have nothing except the chrome Lenovo logo and Dolby Digital Plus logo.

Lenovo IdeaTab A1000 Back

Display

The device features 7-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 600 x 1024 pixels and gives a pixel density of 170 pixels per inch. You cannot differentiate between the pixels. Images, videos look good on the display only if you are the only one looking at them as viewing angles are very poor. After continuous use the display of A1000 becomes unpleasant to look at because of very high contrasts, Whites becomes too white that text becomes unreadable. You can reduce the brightness which resolves the issue a bit and eventually increases the battery life also.

Software and Internal Storage

The tablet runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, out of the box. Lenovo’s skin on Android in not very heavily loaded as it is in the HTC’s or Samsung’s, it’s pretty close to stock android. The company had not even tweaked stock apps like camera, calendar, clock, FM radio.

Lenovo IdeaTab A1000 Apps

Lenovo added quick shortcuts to toggle Wi-Fi, Flight mode, Auto-rotate, Audio profile among others in the Notification bar. As there are no hardware buttons on front so the Android buttons are available onscreen.

Although the Lenovo A1000 comes with 4GB, 8GB and 16GB of internal storage, Lenovo split up the internal storage on which user gets 2.5GB as Internal Storage and the remaining 12GB USB Storage on the 16GB version whereas on 4GB version things gets worse as user gets only 503MB as Internal Storage and 2.05GB as External Storage.

Lenovo IdeaTab A1000 Internal Storage

Camera

The quality on front facing 0.3-megapixel camera is very poor, we wonder why Lenovo even included it. Images taken lack sharpness, color accuracy and are too noisy. We wouldn’t even suggest video chatting with the tablet as you’ll just show up on your friend’s screen a dark, pixelated version of yourself.

Battery

The IdeaTab’s 3500mAh battery lasted between 6 and 7 hours with medium to heavy usage that included playing games and music, steaming video, and browsing the Web. This is decent for a 7-inch tablet and means you can get a whole day’s on-and-off use out of it. Still, it’s not nearly as good as the new Nexus 7 or the Asus Memo Pad HD 7.

Verdict

The Lenovo IdeaTab A1000 is affordable and has an above average set of speakers, but it makes too many sacrifices with features and performance. Display is unpleasant, internal memory user gets is too low, no rear facing camera and poor front facing camera, the only thing going for this is its super affordable price point, which no doubt will attract consumers who are strapped for cash. For alternatives you can look at the super amazing Asus Nexus 7, Samsung Tab 2 P3100(if still in stock), Simmtronics Xpad Mini.
